EDPB meets with EC Commissioner McGrath and adopts a common data breach notification template

During its latest plenary session, the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) met with Michael McGrath, European Commission (EC) Commissioner for Democracy, Justice, the Rule of Law, and Consumers. Promoting a human-centered digital regulation approach that balances innovation with dignity, growth with rights, and effectiveness with trust remains central to our mission. Another key topic of discussion was the importance of cross-regulatory cooperation. The meeting also addressed progress in political advertising, focusing on EDPB guidelines for processing personal data for targeting or delivering political ads under transparency and targeting regulations. To facilitate GDPR compliance while increasing consistency across Europe, the EDPB adopted a common data breach notification template, which will be gradually implemented. The EDPB’s shared template aims to help organizations and data protection authorities structure, harmonize, and standardize their data breach reporting procedures. It ensures that notifications contain the information required by Article 33 of the GDPR, making it easier for organizations to report breaches promptly and for authorities to assess cases efficiently.
