The representative of the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights Jelena Đurišić attended the final conference "Recognized Right = Real Equality," organized by the Union of the Blind of Montenegro in partnership with the Center for Democracy and Human Rights (CEDEM), with financial support from the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights. Đurišić emphasized that the project makes a significant contribution to improving the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities and fighting discrimination, highlighting that partnership between government institutions and civil society organizations contributes to creating better public policies and building an inclusive society. She noted that Montenegro has made notable progress in recent periods through legislative improvements, strategic policy development, and strengthening institutional mechanisms for protection, but challenges remain regarding full inclusion and equal opportunities for persons with disabilities. She particularly stressed the importance of involving persons with disabilities and their representative organizations in the creation of public policies, asserting that only through joint efforts of institutions, civil society, and persons with disabilities can sustainable solutions be developed that meet the real needs of citizens. The conference gathered representatives of government institutions, the judiciary, civil society organizations, international organizations, and media, aiming to present research results on perceptions of discrimination against persons with disabilities, exchange experiences, and define recommendations for improving the protection of their human rights. The Ministry of Human and Minority Rights, through the Directorate for the Protection and Equality of Persons with Disabilities, will continue to implement activities aimed at improving the position of persons with disabilities, strengthening anti-discrimination policies, implementing recommendations of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and developing partnerships with organizations of persons with disabilities to create an inclusive society of equal opportunities for all.
