Publication “Tourism Doing Business: Investing in Montenegro” Presented
Montenegro, at this stage of its European path, represents a particularly attractive investment opportunity, and investors have the chance to enter a developing market preparing for even closer integration with the European economy, said Minister of Tourism Simonida Kordić. In her opening address on the second day of the UN Tourism interregional forum “Europe Meets Asia,” organized by the Ministry of Tourism in cooperation with UN Tourism, she said Montenegro had already positioned itself as a destination attracting some of the world’s most prestigious hotel brands, including One&Only, Aman, Regent, Hilton, Hyatt and The Chedi. “Together with major projects such as Porto Montenegro, Portonovi and Luštica Bay, their presence has contributed to transforming our tourism offering and strengthening Montenegro’s international recognition,” Kordić said while opening the Investment Forum, which brought together international investors, representatives of financial institutions and the tourism industry. “Our goal is not only to attract new investment, but also to ensure that the benefits of tourism development are felt throughout the country—by extending the season, creating new jobs, supporting local businesses and generating opportunities for communities beyond the established tourist centers,” Kordić stated. Cooperation with partners, she added, would place tourism at the top of the global tourism agenda and bring capital into the country. “Over the past 20 years, Montenegro has attracted nearly five billion in foreign direct investment from a total of 60 countries.” The event is of particular international importance, as it is the first time that representatives of the regional commissions for Europe and Asia and the Pacific will gather at a joint UN Tourism forum, with the aim of strengthening interregional cooperation, connecting tourism markets and opening new opportunities for tourism development and investment.
