Traffic police record and sanction 1,320 violations in 48 hours since the new Law came into effect – 48 drivers detained; no fatalities in traffic

Over the past 48 hours, since the Law on Amendments and Supplements to the Traffic Safety Law came into force, traffic police across Montenegro have recorded and sanctioned 1,320 traffic violations through road checks and digital patrols using drones. Forty-eight drivers were detained, including 26 for driving under the influence of alcohol, eight for driving under the influence of psychoactive substances, and 14 for other serious violations of the new Law. During this period, 54 traffic accidents occurred, resulting in four serious injuries and 15 minor injuries, with no fatalities. The new Law, aligned with EU traffic standards, introduces stricter penalties for serious violations, emphasizing safety and the protection of all road users, especially young drivers with new restrictions. The goal is to improve traffic culture and reduce severe accidents. In addition to enforcing the new rules, police will focus on seatbelt compliance among all participants. Montenegro's traffic police will continue intensified monitoring through the campaign “Live, Don’t Rush,” utilizing drones, video surveillance, and modern technology to better detect and penalize serious violations and enhance overall safety.
