European Council Expert Delegation for Sports Visits Montenegro for Two Days

Ahead of Montenegro's chairmanship of the Council of Europe's Committee of Ministers starting in November 2026, a European Council expert delegation for sports visited Montenegro for two days, focusing on further improving the national sports system. During the visit, the expert team met with representatives from the Ministry of Sports and Youth, the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation, the Montenegrin Olympic Committee, the Paralympic Committee, Special Olympics, national sports federations, and other relevant stakeholders to learn about its functioning, challenges, and needs. A special focus was on the principles and standards of the European Sports Charter as an important framework for developing a modern and sustainable sports system. Based on insights and discussions with relevant institutions and organizations, the expert team will prepare recommendations that could be significant for further enhancing Montenegro's sports system. In cooperation with the Council of Europe and other international partners, efforts will continue to strengthen the sports system and align it further with European standards.
