Šahmanović and Felten: Energy sector among the most important development priorities of the modern world

In an open and substantive discussion, conducted in an exceptionally friendly atmosphere, the interlocutors exchanged opinions on current challenges and perspectives of the energy sector, agreeing that energy today is one of the most important developmental and geopolitical topics, both for Montenegro, Europe, and the world. Minister Šahmanović thanked Ambassador Felten for the strong and continuous support Germany has provided to Montenegro during his mandate, especially in the process of European integration and improving the energy sector, emphasizing that partnership and mutual trust enabled significant reforms to be achieved in the previous period. The meeting also highlighted intensive reform activities undertaken by the Ministry of Energy and Mining over the past year and a half, primarily aligning national legislation with EU law and creating a modern regulatory framework for the development of the energy market. The interlocutors discussed the large investment cycle expected in Montenegro in the coming years, including the development of new production capacities from renewable sources, strengthening the transmission and distribution network, and modernizing the overall energy infrastructure. The successful commissioning of the Gvozd wind farm was particularly emphasized as another important step towards increasing electricity production from renewable sources and as confirmation that Montenegro continues to achieve tangible results in the green transition process. At the end of the meeting, Minister Šahmanović thanked Ambassador Felten for his personal contribution to improving relations between Montenegro and the Federal Republic of Germany, wishing him much success in his further diplomatic career, with the confidence that the friendly relations between the two countries will continue to develop in the future.
