Velje Brdo Project – A New Approach to Affordable Housing and Urban Development in Montenegro
At a meeting of the UNECE Committee on Housing, Urban Development and Land Management, Sonja Ražnatović, Director of the Directorate for Strategic Relations and Communications at the Ministry, presented the Velje Brdo project, one of Montenegro’s most significant development projects in the fields of housing and urban planning. Recalling that the Velje Brdo settlement aims to address one of today’s key social challenges—the availability of affordable housing—she emphasized that its value lies not only in enabling people to resolve their housing needs more affordably, but also in its vision of a space combining housing, infrastructure, green areas, and amenities essential for a high quality of everyday life. Presenting the project on the UNECE’s international platform enables Velje Brdo to become part of a broader exchange of experiences and ideas on how to make cities more accessible, functional, and healthy places, because affordable housing is not merely a matter of having a roof over one’s head—it is also about creating the conditions for citizens to live with dignity and quality.
