Demography in Focus of Public Policies: Barajušković - Popović Held Meeting with UN Resident Coordinator in Montenegro

In the premises of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Family, and Demography, a meeting was held between the General Director of the Directorate for Demography, Milena Brajušković-Popović, and the UN Resident Coordinator in Montenegro, Caroline Tiso, with associates. The meeting was initiated regarding the possibility of future cooperation between the Ministry and the UN system in Montenegro, in providing expert and financial support for activities related to quantitative and qualitative analysis of demographic and other data, as well as the process of preparing, defining measures and activities, and implementing the National Demography Strategy for 2027–2037. During the meeting, key demographic challenges facing Montenegro were highlighted, including regional development disparities, aging population, low birth rate, youth migration abroad, family support, citizen empowerment policies, and social protection system improvement. They also exchanged views on migration issues, cooperation with the diaspora, and promoting 'brain circulation' instead of 'brain drain.' This topic was recognized as a significant regional challenge requiring a systemic approach.
