Monitoring and Forecast Program: Bactrocera oleae (Olive Fruit Fly)

The year has begun with monitoring of the olive fruit fly (Bactrocera oleae), one of the most significant pest organisms in olive production. The goal of the monitoring is to timely track the presence and abundance of this pest so that olive growers can be warned in advance of its appearance and receive recommendations for appropriate protective measures. Traps for monitoring the olive fruit fly have been set up at selected locations in the municipalities of Bar and Ulcinj, in accordance with the work plan and program. Laboratory analysis results so far have shown no infestation of olive fruit fly in the examined fruit samples. Monitoring activities will continue throughout the growing season, and the public and producers will be timely informed about the results and any appearance of the pest. Attached is a report with detailed data on locations and activities initiated as part of the olive fruit fly monitoring, conducted by authorized personnel from the Entomology Laboratory of the Faculty of Biotechnology.
