Šahmanović at Hydrogen Energy Ministerial Meeting 2026: Montenegro Seeks Concrete Partnerships in Green Hydrogen Development

Minister of Energy and Mining Admir Šahmanović participated today, at the invitation of Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), in the Hydrogen Energy Ministerial Meeting 2026, one of the leading international forums dedicated to the development of hydrogen technologies and their role in the energy transition. The ministerial meeting gathered representatives from many countries in Europe and other parts of the world, as well as key international organizations and institutions in the hydrogen sector, including the International Energy Agency (IEA), Hydrogen Council, and the International Partnership for Hydrogen and Fuel Cells in the Economy (IPHE). The discussions focused on developing the hydrogen market, creating demand, reducing costs, infrastructure development, and international supply chains, as well as the need for stronger cooperation to translate existing strategies and plans into concrete projects. We want to turn these into concrete activities—connecting institutions and universities, joint research, knowledge exchange, and the development of pilot and demonstration projects. He pointed out Montenegro's significant potential in renewable energy sources, especially hydro, solar, and wind energy, as the basis for long-term green hydrogen development. Šahmanović emphasized that for Montenegro, which is still in the early stages of this field, it is particularly important to connect with countries and organizations that already have developed technologies, research capacities, and practical experience in implementing hydrogen projects. During the ministerial meeting, direct contacts were made with representatives of IPHE and the Hydrogen Council, with whom continued communication was agreed upon to explore opportunities for concrete cooperation and greater inclusion of Montenegro in international hydrogen initiatives.
