Guidelines for Handling Cases of Sexual Violence Against Children Introduced

Today, principals of primary and secondary schools were presented with Guidelines for the procedures of educational institutions in cases of gender-based and sexual violence against children, prepared by the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation in cooperation with the Women's Rights Center NGO and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The guidelines represent an important step in strengthening child protection and provide schools with clear instructions for timely and responsible action in sensitive situations, as well as for cooperation with other relevant institutions. Addressing the principals, the General Director of the Directorate for Gymnasium and Vocational Education, Marija Gošović, emphasized that schools must be safe places for every child and that it is important for the Guidelines not to remain just a document, but to be a tool that will help staff know how to act when a child needs help the most. Maja Raičević, representing the Women's Rights Center NGO, highlighted the importance of timely recognition of gender-based and sexual violence, as well as the need for schools to be environments where children trust to seek help and receive adequate protection. EBRD representative Ekaterina Solovova stressed the importance of partnership between institutions and civil society in strengthening child protection mechanisms, noting that clear procedures and educated staff are essential prerequisites for a safer school environment. The Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation will continue working with all relevant institutions and organizations to strengthen school capacities and create a safe and encouraging environment for every child.
