New report: Recent Advancements on Artificial Intelligence for Public Health Threats
AI is opening new possibilities for epidemic intelligence and health threat surveillance. Our latest report showcases the pioneering work of the JRC through the DigLife and ETOHA projects, developed in collaboration with JRC colleagues, DG SANTE, ECDC, WHO and DG HERA.
Since early 2024, this work has explored how AI can support the analysis, monitoring and response to disease outbreaks, while also presenting practical AI-based prototypes with potential for operational use.
The key message: the future of AI in public health must be collaborative, trustworthy and human-centred — with a problem-first, technology-second approach, grounded in ethics, oversight and global cooperation.
