New Funding Scheme by NLnet
[Amsterdam, June 18, 2007] NLnet Foundation will from August 1st onwards offer six opportunities per year for smaller and startup projects (budgets between €0 and €30,000 with a maximum duration of one year) to submit applications for support. The foundation spends approximately two million euros annually supporting strategic initiatives aimed at developing and promoting open standards for information exchange and open source network technologies. It supports a wide range of activities, from software development, standardization work, and education to hacker festivals, digital civil rights activities, and the international development of software licenses. The foundation determines which initiatives to support based on relevance, quality, and urgency through a short and straightforward procedure. An important requirement is that any software resulting from a project must be made available under an approved open source license (GPL, BSD, Apache, etc.). The deadlines for applications in 2007 are August 1st, October 1st, and December 1st.
