Minister of Human and Minority Rights Fatmir Gjeka met today with the European Union Ambassador to Montenegro, Johann Sattler, and the UNDP Resident Representative in Montenegro, Ekaterina Paniklova, to discuss continued cooperation and opportunities to support reforms in the area of gender equality. The meeting focused on the future project “Improving Gender Equality Governance,” aimed at strengthening institutional capacities and creating the conditions for effective implementation of the new Gender Equality Law. The interlocutors highlighted the importance of the cooperation to date between the Ministry, the European Union and UNDP, which has contributed to improving the legislative and strategic framework, strengthening institutional capacities and integrating a gender perspective into public policies. Particular attention was paid to the need to translate the reform results achieved into concrete changes in the work of institutions by developing practical mechanisms for implementing the Law, improving gender-responsive public policies and budgeting, data and reporting systems, and strengthening the professional capacities of public administration employees. It was agreed that a project proposal with clearly defined activities, expected results and priorities would be prepared and submitted to the Delegation of the European Union for further consideration.
