Krapović at ADRION Meeting: Strengthening Cooperation for a Stronger Response to Security Challenges

Defense Minister Dragan Krapović participated today in the Adriatic-Ionian Initiative (ADRION) ministerial meeting held in Venice, Italy. During the meeting, Minister Krapović emphasized the importance of this regional platform and highlighted that the gathering is a significant opportunity to reaffirm a strong commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the Adriatic-Ionian basin. He pointed out that rapid changes in the security environment, accompanied by new hybrid and cyber threats, require greater flexibility, unity, and coordination, with a message that no country can respond to current challenges alone. Reflecting on proposals to establish new cooperation models within the existing initiative, Krapović underscored the importance of complementarity with efforts to strengthen the European pillar within NATO, while avoiding duplication of efforts. In this context, he added that through the modernization process of the Montenegrin Armed Forces, with a focus on enhancing naval capabilities, the country's capacities will be significantly strengthened, contributing directly to regional security. Participants concluded that the Initiative remains one of the pillars of regional cooperation and connectivity, and that through continuous dialogue and strengthening interoperability, a meaningful contribution to the security of the Adriatic-Ionian region can be sustained.
