Ibrahimović at Ministerial Meeting in Washington: Strengthening International Cooperation Is Key in the Fight Against Political Terrorism

Vice President of Montenegro and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović participated on the second day of his stay in Washington in the ministerial meeting "Reviving Political Terrorism" held at the invitation of U.S. Secretary of State Mark R. Rubio. He emphasized that Montenegro, as an NATO ally, sees its contribution to collective security through strengthening institutional resilience, improving intelligence cooperation, protecting critical infrastructure, and joint efforts to combat extremist networks and terrorism financing. In this context, he highlighted that foreign malicious actors are intensifying attempts to weaken institutions, cause instability, and diminish citizens' trust in Montenegro's European future through disinformation, hybrid activities, and media narrative instrumentalization. Concluding his speech, Minister Ibrahimović stated that terrorism succeeds where institutions are weak, societies are divided, and international cooperation is insufficient, stressing that the response of the international community must be based on unity, resilience, and consistent commitment to shared democratic values. During his stay in Washington, Ibrahimović also met with Max Primorac, senior associate at the Heritage Foundation, and colleagues, discussing the current political situation in Montenegro and the region, as well as security and geopolitical challenges facing Europe. The interlocutors exchanged views on the European perspective of the Western Balkans, confirming Montenegro's progress in closing negotiation chapters, with the goal of becoming a full member of the European Union by the end of 2028.
