Krapović and Dendias: Confirmed Strong Alliance and Open New Cooperation Perspectives

The ministers discussed enhancing bilateral defense cooperation, with a special focus on strengthening interoperability, military education, modernization of defense capacities, and joint participation in NATO activities and operations. Minister Krapović emphasized that Montenegro remains firmly committed to strengthening collective security through active contributions to NATO missions and operations, including the deployment of the Montenegrin Army personnel on NATO's eastern flank, in the KFOR mission, and the SEA GUARDIAN operation in the Mediterranean. He particularly thanked Greece for its ongoing support in protecting Montenegrin airspace through the NATO Air Policing mission, as well as for contributing to human resource development through the education of Montenegrin Army cadets at Greek military academies. The interlocutors exchanged views on current global and regional security challenges and jointly agreed on the necessity of maintaining a strong NATO and EU presence in the region, as well as continuing policies of deterrence and strengthening allies' defense capabilities. Krapović expressed gratitude to his Greek colleague for consistent and strong support for Montenegro's European integration, highlighting that Montenegro remains a leader in the accession process to the European Union with the goal of membership by 2028. During the meeting, the two delegations also discussed opportunities for further deepening bilateral cooperation through regional initiatives, including ADRION and SEDM processes, as well as expanding the military-diplomatic network by opening a Montenegrin Defense Attaché Office in Athens.
