The Principle of Equality Must Apply to Everyone

The appointment of Professor Snežana Živanović as director of JU SMŠ "Bratstvo-jedinstvo" in Ulcinj has sparked reactions from certain political entities, raising issues such as her national affiliation and the fact that she does not speak Albanian. Multiculturalism in Ulcinj is a value that must be protected through equal rights, respect for diversity, and consistent application of laws, rather than judging people based on their name, origin, or nationality. Leaders of educational institutions should be chosen in accordance with the law and prescribed procedures, based on knowledge, expertise, experience, management skills, and achieved results, under equal conditions for all candidates. At the same time, the Albanian community's right to equality, use of their language, preservation of identity, and full realization of minority rights must be consistently respected and protected. The protection of minority rights and the principle of equal opportunities are not opposed but form the foundation of a democratic and multicultural society. The Ministry of Human and Minority Rights calls for responsible discussion on such sensitive issues based on facts, and for public debate to focus on legality of decisions, criteria, and procedures.
