Press Release: Customs Administration Prevented Transit of Three Containers of Meat with Expired Use-By Date

The Customs Administration, as part of intensified control activities at the Luka Bar Customs Office, prevented the further transit of three containers of frozen beef originating from Brazil, intended for the Kosovo market. It was found that these containers, destined for a buyer from Kosovo, were taken under customs supervision without the necessary approval. Further inspection revealed that workers hired by a company from Kosovo, using tools to remove and attach labels, were replacing original declarations showing expired use-by dates with falsified declarations indicating new or altered dates. The Customs Administration immediately informed the Food Safety, Veterinary, and Phytosanitary Services and the Police Department, which are involved in further proceedings within their competencies. Given that some economic entities in Montenegro involved in meat processing are supplied by this Kosovo-based company, intensive activities are ongoing to determine all relevant facts and the extent of distribution of the affected products. After the completion of all relevant procedures, the public will be timely and thoroughly informed about the findings and measures taken.
