Report on the Work of the Directorate for Market Inspection on Sunday, 12th July, and during the National Holiday – Statehood Day on 12th and 13th July 2026
In 2026, the Directorate conducted intensified inspection controls over the implementation of Article 35b of the Law on Internal Trade, which prohibits retail trade on Sundays and during national holidays, except in cases specified by law. During these inspections, 61 irregularities related to non-compliance with Article 35b of the Law on Internal Trade were identified. The market inspectors took legally prescribed administrative and misdemeanor measures, issuing 92 misdemeanor orders totaling 46,200 euros. All establishments found to violate Article 35b were closed in accordance with the law. The Directorate for Market Inspection will continue with intensified controls of the implementation of Article 35b to ensure consistent law enforcement and equal business conditions for all market participants. We invite all economic entities to align their operations with current legal regulations to avoid administrative and misdemeanor measures and contribute to a well-regulated and lawful market environment.
