Director of the Compensation Fund Elmir Kurtagić: 80.23 Million Euros Paid for Restitution

The Compensation Fund has paid the majority of 8,750,000 euros since mid-July, which is compensation for this year allocated to 4,880 citizens based on previously seized property (restitutions). According to the Fund's records, based on enforceable decisions submitted for execution so far, remaining obligations amount to 53,267,038 euros. We note that this amount does not represent the final total of all future obligations related to compensation, as some procedures are still ongoing with the relevant Compensation and Restitution Committees. It was also emphasized that it is not possible to give a precise estimate of when the restitution process will be completed, as the final scope of obligations depends on procedures before the Committee and the number of enforceable decisions they will receive. When asked about the statement by the Minister of Spatial Planning, Urbanism, and State Property Slaven Radunović, who announced in early July that all those owed up to 10,000 euros would be compensated this year, Kurtagić clarified that this debt refers to claims with established compensation up to 10,000 euros that were not paid in previous years. He explained that heirs entitled to compensation under the law, in the shares determined by inheritance decisions after the death of the former owner, are entitled to payment in the percentage established by the Regulation on Compensation Payments – specifically 18 percent of the remaining amount.
