Open registration for funding
The foundation supports initiatives that are of strategic importance to the open information society, particularly for the development and popularization of open standards and (network-oriented) open source technology. This ranges from software development, standardization work, and educational material development to security tools and support for digital civil rights activities. An important condition is that any software resulting from a project must be made available under an approved open source license (GPL, BSD, Apache, etc.). Projects requiring significantly more budget than what is possible through NLnet's open registration are advised to contact one of our staff to discuss options. Currently, several dozen projects and organizations receive financial support, including the NLnet Labs research lab, Unhosted, Lantern Project, Calligra Suite, WebODF, AbiWord, Serval, Jitsi, 0cpm, and Internet Society.
