Conference “Demographic Resilience of Montenegro: Population as the Foundation of Sustainable Development”

In July, the Ministry of Social Welfare, Family, and Demography is organizing a conference titled “Demographic Resilience of Montenegro: Population as the Foundation of Sustainable Development,” scheduled for October 10. Aging population, declining youth numbers, migrations, depopulation of certain areas, and pronounced regional disparities significantly impact the labor market, social protection systems, the sustainability of public systems, and the overall quality of life of citizens. Recognizing that the population is the foundation of social and economic development, the conference aims to bring together decision-makers, representatives of international organizations, academia, local governments, civil society, and other relevant stakeholders to examine key demographic challenges and define priorities for strengthening Montenegro’s demographic resilience. The opening will feature addresses by the Minister of Social Welfare, Family, and Demography Damir Gutić, and UN Resident Coordinator in Montenegro Caroline Tissot. The event will include an analysis of demographic trends and challenges in Montenegro, followed by a panel discussion titled “Population as the Foundation of Sustainable Development: Public Policy Responses to Demographic Changes,” with participants from the Montenegrin government, academia, and international partners. The conference will also serve as an opportunity to foster broader societal dialogue on the priorities of Montenegro’s future Demographic Strategy and the creation of sustainable public policies aimed at enhancing the country’s demographic resilience.
