Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Language Education at the Centre for Modern Languages Meeting
A meeting of the Presidium of the Governing Board of the Council of Europe’s European Centre for Modern Languages (ECML) was attended by Nataša Perić, Adviser for International Cooperation at the Institute for Education, Montenegro’s representative on the Governing Board and a member of the Presidium. Particular attention was paid to the use of artificial intelligence in language learning, the professional development of teachers, and the promotion of multilingualism. The Digital Bridges project, which explores the use of generative artificial intelligence in language learning through virtual mobility, and ARPIDE, focused on using artificial intelligence to facilitate access to the Centre’s educational resources, were presented. Opportunities for professional development were also discussed, including training at the ECML headquarters in Graz and the Training and Consultancy programme, implemented in member states according to their needs and priorities. A survey among member states is currently underway to identify key needs and priorities in language education, which will serve as a basis for planning the Centre’s future activities. The participation of the Institute for Education’s representative contributes to monitoring European trends, exchanging experiences, and identifying opportunities to improve language education in Montenegro, particularly in the areas of new technologies and teachers’ professional development.
