Calasan and Melović at the 70th Regular Session of the IAEA General Conference

Mr. Tatjana Calasan, State Secretary, and Ms. Marica Melović, Director of the Directorate for Science, participate in the 70th regular session of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference, held this week in Vienna at the Agency's headquarters. This high-level forum, attended by delegations from IAEA member states, international organizations, and the civil sector, provides an excellent opportunity for knowledge and experience exchange at the operational level, as well as for high-level meetings to discuss further cooperation between Montenegro and IAEA in priority areas. Recognizing Montenegro's specifics as a non-nuclear country, all meetings emphasized the importance of applying nuclear sciences and applications in areas vital to the country—primarily human health, followed by agriculture, water sources, veterinary medicine, and environmental protection—aligned with the priorities of the Science, Research, and Innovation Strategy 2024–2028 and the new Smart Specialization Strategy 2026–2031. State Secretary Tatjana Calasan also participated in high-level meetings, expressing the Ministry of Education, Science, and Innovation's (MESI) readiness to further enhance this partnership. Alongside the plenary session, the Scientific Forum 'Rays of Hope—Nuclear Science in the Service of Health' was monitored, dedicated to research and innovations in the fight against malignant diseases, with active participation in operational/project-level meetings.
