TAIEX Workshop on Biocidal Products in the European Union

A TAIEX workshop entitled “Biocidal Products in the European Union: Microbiology, Efficacy Assessment and Market Surveillance” was held in cooperation with Montenegro’s Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Development. The workshop aimed to strengthen the professional capacities of representatives of Montenegro’s competent institutions to apply European regulations on biocidal products, with a particular focus on assessing microbiological efficacy, authorization procedures and market surveillance. The workshop covered the European Union regulatory framework for biocidal products, procedures for approving active substances and authorizing products, as well as relevant provisions of the REACH and CLP Regulations. Particular attention was paid to methods for testing microbiological efficacy, interpreting results and applying them in biocidal product authorization procedures. Experts from Italy, Slovenia and Lithuania presented the experience and practices of EU Member States in conducting market surveillance, inspection procedures and handling cases of non-compliance. This TAIEX activity contributes to strengthening the capacity of Montenegro’s competent institutions to implement European legislation on biocidal products, improving market surveillance and further aligning the national regulatory framework with the European Union acquis.
