On Plav about European integration: Knowledge and readiness of local communities are important for EU membership

Representatives of the municipalities of Plav and Gusinje, as well as students of the "Bećo Bašić" Secondary School, participated today in Plav in an educational program dedicated to the European Union, the accession process of Montenegro, and the opportunities that European integration brings to local communities and youth. In the first part of the event, State Secretary of the Ministry of European Affairs Biljana Papović discussed with representatives of the two local self-governments the process of Montenegro's accession to the European Union, the obligations ahead, and the role of municipalities in implementing European standards and utilizing the opportunities of membership. Gusinje Municipality Manager Kevin Mrkulić emphasized the importance of such programs, which bring local government representatives closer not only to what awaits them after joining the EU but also to specific opportunities available through European funds, programs, and development projects. At the "Bećo Bašić" Secondary School, a quiz titled "EU in Your School" was held, preceded by a brief lecture on the basic principles, values, and functioning of the European Union. Students had the opportunity to test and expand their knowledge about the EU and the European integration process of Montenegro through an interactive format. The program was implemented as part of the initiative "Empowering Municipalities for European Action 2026," conducted by the Ministry of European Affairs with financial support from the European Union through the EU4ME project, in cooperation with the municipalities of Plav and Gusinje.
