NATO courses on host-nation support and CBRN defence strengthen our collective capability
During the autumn, the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency, together with NATO School Oberammergau, conducted training for a total of around 80 participants. Host-nation support is a total-defence issue, in which the Swedish Armed Forces’ capabilities depend on civilian authorities, county administrative boards, regions, municipalities and businesses functioning effectively and in coordination. In cooperation with the relevant authorities and other actors, the Swedish Armed Forces must be able to provide host-nation support to NATO and allied forces on Swedish soil. The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency supports this work by initiating measures at national level and coordinating the planning and preparations for the civilian aspects of host-nation support. To build capabilities for managing chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) threats and incidents, Swedish actors need to learn about and align themselves with NATO’s standards, planning frameworks and concepts in this area. We look forward to welcoming NATO School Oberammergau back to the northern flank soon!
