Newsletter: Reflections on UN Open Source Week, DC-EDIC Kick-Off, hiring & more
Email on 9 July 2026: UN Open Source Week, Digital Commons EDIC Kick-off, hiring & more The Sovereign Tech Agency was in New York for UN Open Source Week in June, hosting the Maintain-a-thon and shaping the week's conversations on strengthening open digital infrastructure. In addition to hosting the maintain-a-thon again, as well as a breakfast reception where the Parliamentary State Secretary Thomas Jarzombek from the Federal Ministry for Digital Transformation and Government Modernisation spoke, we contributed across multiple sessions, including panels at OSPOs for Good day and community-led side events. Recognizing the need for sustained and structured collaboration in multistakeholder settings, the Sovereign Tech Agency, together with the German Federal Ministry for Digital Transformation and Government Modernisation proposed a new policy network on open digital infrastructure to the Internet Governance Forum (IGF). On June 19, the Digital Commons EDIC (European Digital Infrastructure Consortium) held the official kick-off workshop in Paris for its first implementation activities, bringing together Member States, European institutions, and the open source ecosystem to begin scaling shared work on digital commons across Europe. In these workshops marking the shift from policy to concrete action, the Sovereign Tech Agency led discussions in the “Maintain" track, focusing on how to design an instrument that helps sustain critical open source infrastructure so that it remains trustworthy, secure, and usable over time. With our operational and strategic expertise, extensive international network, and organizational capacity, the Sovereign Tech Agency is uniquely positioned to lead the pilot of the European Sovereign Tech Fund.
