ATTENTION! The Use of Artificial Intelligence May Pose Risks to Personal Data

In light of the increasingly frequent international warnings about the use of artificial intelligence (AI), the National Center for Personal Data Protection (CNPDCP) draws attention to the need to protect privacy and personal data when using these technologies. The CNPDCP urges personal data controllers to assess the risks associated with implementing and using AI systems, establish clear internal rules for their use, and ensure that staff receive appropriate information and training. In the workplace, when employees use chatbots and digital assistants such as ChatGPT or Copilot to draft documents, respond to customer requests, or summarize large files, clear restrictions must be established on entering personal data or confidential/sensitive information into these tools, as such actions may expose organizations and data subjects to major risks. When using AI tools, the right to personal data protection must be respected in accordance with the applicable legal framework, including the principles of lawfulness, transparency, data minimization, and data security. The CNPDCP also recommends that individuals exercise the utmost caution when using AI tools and pay particular attention to the information they provide through them, highlighting the following aspects: the CNPDCP reminds everyone that the development and use of AI-based technologies must not infringe on the right to privacy and the protection of personal data. Data controllers must ensure compliance with legal requirements in their activities, while individuals are encouraged to remain vigilant when providing information through these technologies.
