1.5 billion kronor for municipalities' preparedness – the start of a long-term initiative
The Civil Contingencies Agency also allocates 400 million kronor through an investment support for decentralized supply preparedness to all municipalities in Sweden. The agency has identified municipalities of particular importance for total defense in collaboration with the Swedish Armed Forces and in dialogue with civil regional offices and county administrative boards. The funds will primarily be directed toward investments in command centers and special gathering places but can also be used for investments or equipment necessary to maintain critical societal functions within the municipality's responsibility, such as reserve equipment or repair tools. Before 2027, the agency will, in dialogue with county administrative boards, civil regional offices, the Swedish Armed Forces, and other stakeholders, assess the need for additional civilian aspects. In addition to the funds paid to municipalities, the agency will procure equipment in 2026 to support municipalities' and regions' supply preparedness. The task has a financial framework of 500 million kronor and will be used for investments in physical infrastructure, fuel, food, and other critical supplies, as well as stockpiles of medicines and medical equipment.
