Ivanović and Nikoloski: Strengthening Transport Connectivity and Economic Cooperation at the Heart of Montenegro–North Macedonia Relations

Montenegro’s Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs, Dr Filip Ivanović, met with Aleksandar Nikoloski, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport of the Republic of North Macedonia, to discuss further improvements in bilateral relations, with a particular focus on transport connectivity, economic cooperation and the European perspective of the two countries. The interlocutors assessed that relations between Montenegro and North Macedonia are very good and friendly, marked by continuous political dialogue, while noting room to intensify cooperation in areas of mutual interest. In this context, they discussed establishing air links between Podgorica and Tivat and Skopje, as well as the potential for developing rail transport and improving regional infrastructure connectivity. Ivanović stressed the importance of stronger links between businesses and more effective use of existing bilateral cooperation mechanisms, which should be implemented through concrete projects. They also exchanged views on European integration, confirming that the Western Balkan countries’ progress towards EU membership is crucial for the stability, security and prosperity of the region. The meeting confirmed their mutual readiness to continue open and constructive dialogue and to turn initiatives into concrete actions that will contribute to better transport connectivity, stronger economic ties and the further development of friendly relations between Montenegro and North Macedonia.
