Ivanović: Adoption of the Financial Package for Accession Confirms Montenegro as a Future EU Member

The Deputy Prime Minister of Montenegro for Foreign and European Affairs, Dr. Filip Ivanović, welcomed today's decision by the European Commission to adopt the financial package for Montenegro's accession to the European Union, emphasizing that it represents an important step in further operationalizing European integration and confirming the credibility of the enlargement policy. In a social media post on X, Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović stated: Today's decision by the European Commission is much more than just another technical step in Montenegro's accession process to the European Union. By adopting the financial package for accession, the European Commission is for the first time providing detailed guidance on how Montenegro will be integrated into the EU budget as a future member state. At the same time, it sets the framework for financing the development of our municipalities, agriculture, transportation and communal infrastructure, public services, and other projects that directly impact citizens' quality of life. This is yet another milestone on the EU path and an important political signal that the European Union already views Montenegro as a future member state, as well as a sign of trust in the commitment of Montenegrin institutions to complete the process within the planned timeframe, while preparations for membership proceed in parallel with the conclusion of negotiations. Today's decision by the European Commission represents much more than just another technical step in the accession process to the EU.
