Cyber Operations Consolidated at FRA – Transition to the National Cybersecurity Center on July 1, 2026

On November 20, 2025, the government decided that all cyber activities at the Civil Defence Agency will transfer to the National Cybersecurity Center (NCSC) at FRA. This includes responsibilities such as managing cyber incidents, serving as the cyber crisis management authority, acting as the national contact point under the NIS2 directive, tasks under the cybersecurity law, and Sweden's national coordination center for research and innovation in cybersecurity (NCC-SE). The work and expertise will be further developed to enhance Sweden’s overall ability to prevent, detect, and respond to cyber threats. Strengthening Sweden’s cybersecurity is a key part of civil defense and essential for society to function during crises and heightened alertness. Collaboration between authorities, industry, and other societal actors remains crucial to building a resilient and robust society. The shared goal remains: to enhance Sweden’s capacity to resist and handle cyberattacks and ensure critical societal functions operate regardless of external conditions. Until July 1, 2026, the focus is on ensuring a safe and stable transition for the operations and staff, emphasizing continuity and expertise.
