Mobile networks from commercial operators to strengthen societal preparedness
The Civil Defense Agency has signed framework agreements on mobile networks with Telia and Net4Mobility for the establishment of SWEN – The Swedish Emergency Network. A network that will provide critical societal actors with enhanced ability to communicate, collaborate, and lead efforts using modern technology for voice, data, and video. – With a resilient network, we contribute to creating a resilient society under normal conditions, crises, or war, says Åke Holmgren, head of cybersecurity and critical communication services at the Civil Defense Agency. The commercial mobile networks will become an important part of the SWEN infrastructure, and the procurement is based on several strategic choices to create a resilient network that meets users' needs. The agreement with Telia also includes activation of planned SWEN frequencies in the 700 MHz spectrum to further strengthen robustness. This allocation is an important step towards providing future SWEN users with access to modern mobile communication based on 4G and 5G, as well as solutions for specially protected data communication.
