Strengthening of Montenegro and Albania's Partnership through European Values and Human Rights

Montenegro and the Republic of Albania maintain friendly and partnership relations based on mutual trust, good neighborliness, and a shared European perspective, as conveyed at the meeting between Minister of Human and Minority Rights Fatmir Gjeke and the Chairwoman of the Albanian Parliamentary Committee for Human Rights and Public Information Jorida Tabaku. The interlocutors exchanged views on the European integration process and reform efforts in Montenegro and Albania, emphasizing that progress in the region serves as an important incentive to strengthen the joint European perspective of the Western Balkans. Special emphasis was placed on the importance of reform processes aimed at aligning national legislation with the legal acquis of the European Union and international standards in the field of human rights protection. During the meeting, they also discussed the status of the Albanian community in Montenegro, highlighting the need to continue improving their rights, increasing their representation in social and political life, and creating conditions for stronger development and investments in their communities. The interlocutors expressed readiness to continue cooperation through ongoing dialogue, exchange of experiences, and joint initiatives in areas such as human and minority rights protection, gender equality, and anti-discrimination efforts, with the goal of building an inclusive society and promoting shared European values. It was concluded that today's meeting will further strengthen cooperation between Montenegro and Albania and affirm European values.
