New Regulation on Hunting Seasons Based on Expert and Scientific Principles

We hereby deny claims that the adoption of the regulation aims to endanger the populations of game in Montenegro; on the contrary, it provides a basis for improving their phenotypic characteristics and health status. When it comes to the removal of individuals of both sexes from the game population, it is entirely scientifically justified and represents one of the basic breeding and selection measures in modern planning and management of game populations. In the science of hunting management (hunting) and ecology of populations, removal (shooting or elimination) is not carried out randomly but has clear biological goals that require the selection of both male and female individuals. The main reasons for determining hunting seasons for game are based on the following scientific principles: this way, the population is observed as a whole, and the removal of game (shooting) from the population is carried out systematically, with management plans necessarily providing quotas for the removal of both sexes (and different age groups), because unilateral removal would disrupt the stability and health of the population. Regarding hunting days, we emphasize that in most EU countries, every day of the week is a hunting day during the hunting season, so Montenegro remains a country with the fewest hunting days in Europe. Illegal hunting, exceeding authorized quotas, or any other violation of regulations is unacceptable, and the Ministry will support lawful actions by competent authorities to protect game and preserve natural resources.
