European Commission confirms acceleration of economic growth and fiscal stability of Montenegro

The Ministry of Finance welcomes the findings of the latest quarterly report by the European Commission on the economies of candidate and potential candidate countries for EU membership, which confirms that Montenegro in the first quarter of 2026. Notably, gross investments in fixed assets grew by as much as 20.9% year-on-year, signaling strong investor confidence and creating conditions for long-term and sustainable economic development. Budget revenues in the first five months of this year increased by 8.2% compared to the same period last year, and exceeded the plan by 2.1%, demonstrating responsible public finance management and strengthening fiscal discipline. At the same time, public debt was reduced to 59% of GDP, marking significant progress in fiscal sustainability and creating additional space for funding development priorities. The Ministry remains committed to implementing responsible economic policies that contribute to macroeconomic stability, improve the business environment, and accelerate economic growth, while maintaining fiscal sustainability. The achieved results confirm that Montenegro is experiencing stable economic progress, and the Ministry remains dedicated to creating policies that will further improve citizens' living standards, encourage investments, and ensure long-term fiscal and macroeconomic stability.
