Sweden’s largest EU-funded emergency preparedness resource, Shelter-SE, ready for deployment

After three years of work, Shelter-SE is complete as one of Sweden’s largest civil preparedness resources within the EU’s civil protection cooperation. Shelter-SE includes temporary accommodation solutions with showers, toilets, and other necessities, making it possible to quickly provide people with shelter and basic support when regular societal resources are under severe strain. “We also see that the EU is very pleased with the quality Sweden has delivered in procuring this resource,” says Nils Vaernholt, Head of Operational Response and project owner. The development of Shelter-SE was funded through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism and is one of Sweden’s largest projects in this field. “If we were to activate the entire resource at the same time, it could provide temporary accommodation and sanitation facilities for just over 1,000 people. Shelter-SE strengthens the EU’s and Sweden’s ability to manage future crises.”
