Montenegro and Japan Signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in the Field of Energy

The Minister of Energy and Mining of Montenegro, Admir Šahmanović, and the Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Ryosei Akazawa, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) in the field of energy yesterday in Tokyo between the Ministry of Energy and Mining of Montenegro and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan (METI). The memorandum represents a new institutional framework to strengthen the energy partnership between the two countries, focusing on energy security, sustainable development, decarbonization, energy transition, and development of energy infrastructure. The document foresees enhanced cooperation between government institutions, research and financial institutions, and the private sector of Montenegro and Japan, opening space for concrete technological, institutional, and investment collaboration. The cooperation will cover the electric power sector, including high-efficiency technologies for electricity generation, stabilization of the power system, development of electricity markets, and transmission and distribution infrastructure. The memorandum also includes cooperation in natural gas and LNG, development of relevant infrastructure and supply chains, and other energy areas as mutually agreed. By signing the memorandum, Montenegro and Japan confirm their shared interest in deepening cooperation and developing concrete initiatives and projects that can contribute to a safer, more reliable, and sustainable energy system.
