Disinformation and foreign interventions at the center of AKSK workshop with Hybrid CoE
Referring to recent cases, he mentioned manipulation of videos and photos with artificial intelligence, as well as the spread of fake news, highlighting the importance for media professionals to recognize disinformation methods and their connection to possible foreign interventions. Kazia emphasized that Albania, as a NATO member and candidate for EU membership, is strengthening its defensive capacities, including dedicated teams for analyzing open-source information. Martha Turnbull, head of the Hybrid Influence Community at Hybrid CoE, pointed out that Albania, like other European countries, faces hybrid threats targeting the informational environment, especially through disinformation. She stressed that strategies, legislation, and inter-institutional coordination should be complemented by media, civil society, and NGOs to enhance collective capacity to identify and counter these threats. During the panel discussion, Deputy Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Megi Fino, focused on rapid information verification, trustworthy communication with citizens regarding European integration, and cooperation with NATO, the EU, and Hybrid CoE. From a media perspective, the Chair of the Audiovisual Media Authority, Armela Krasniqi, highlighted the importance of media education and source verification, also presenting AMA's cooperation with TikTok and X platforms for reporting harmful content.
