Support for Domestic Producers and Innovation Are Key to the Future of Agriculture
In October, Mirsad Spahić, Head of the Economic Analysis and Market Department, addressed attendees on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management at an event organized in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the University of Donja Gorica. This year’s observance is being held under the slogan “Let Us Innovate Today for Better Food Tomorrow,” focusing on improving agricultural production, applying new knowledge and innovations, and recognizing the people whose work contributes to Montenegro’s food security. Spahić emphasized that preserving and developing domestic production is an important prerequisite for strengthening the agricultural sector, highlighting the need to create better working conditions for agricultural holdings and opportunities for young people who want to build their future in agriculture. “Our task is to create conditions in which people can make a decent living from agriculture, young people can see a future on their farms, and what we produce can be recognized and valued,” Spahić said. Speaking about the European integration process, he pointed to the importance of providing producers with timely information, expert support, and access to new knowledge and technologies so that domestic agriculture can become more competitive and better prepared for future challenges. He particularly emphasized the importance of cooperation between the Ministry and FAO in strengthening institutional capacities and supporting farmers, as well as the role of the academic community in developing innovations and connecting science with practice.
