Deputy Prime Minister Aleksić Visits the Islamic Cultural Center in Bar

Montenegro’s Deputy Prime Minister for Education, Science and Relations with Religious Communities, Dr. Budimir Aleksić, visited the Islamic Cultural Center in Bar, the Old Town and the Omerbašić Mosque today. During the meeting with representatives of the Islamic Community, the crucial importance of interfaith and intercultural cooperation was emphasized, as were the values for which Bar has traditionally been recognized as a symbol of harmony and tolerance in Montenegro. Particular emphasis was placed on the tour of the Old Town of Bar, where they visited religious sites belonging to all three largest religions, which also have protected cultural monument status. It was noted that these invaluable historical sites best demonstrate centuries of religious coexistence and the deeply rooted tradition of mutual respect in the area. “This cultural and religious heritage is also our greatest asset on the path to EU accession, through which Montenegro can make a strong contribution to building a multiethnic society,” Deputy Prime Minister Aleksić said.
