Organizations Must Take Note: Critical Security Update for PHP
Two critical vulnerabilities in PHP, the engine behind many web applications, mean that system owners should update their systems as soon as possible. The organization behind the open-source PHP project is urging system owners to install a critical security update for PHP without delay. According to the PHP developers, the vulnerabilities can be exploited to execute arbitrary code without special user privileges. PHP’s security advisory lists several alternative technical measures that can mitigate the vulnerabilities if an immediate update is not possible. If updating within a short timeframe is not possible, it may be necessary to take systems offline until they can be updated.
