Marc Gauw appointed as new director of NLnet

Stichting NLnet in Amsterdam announced today that, effective February 1st, they have appointed Dutchman Marc Gauw (53) as their new general director. NLnet is a small but internationally operating charitable fund that finances high-quality technology projects worldwide to make the internet safer and more reliable. Gauw brings approximately 17 years of experience in the internet industry, including the last six years as commercial director of one of the world's largest internet exchanges, NL-ix. "Certainly, over the past year, several issues have come to light that provide a changed perspective on the actual health of the current internet," he states. "This is more urgent than ever, and it is time to take a leading role and also free up new resources." The history of NLnet dates back to 1982 when, under the leadership of internet pioneer and later NLnet director Teus Hagen, the first pan-European UNIX computer network was established. Currently, dozens of projects and organizations are financially supported, including the research lab NLnet Labs, Unhosted, Lantern Project, Calligra Suite, WebODF, AbiWord, Serval, Jitsi, 0cpm, and GNUnet.
