Overview of Yellow Sticky Boards Confirmed Presence of Imago A. spiniferus in Citrus Plantations in the Ulcinj Municipality

Considering the biological characteristics of the species (invasiveness, polyphagy, multiple generations per year), and especially noting that it has been established in the coastal area for the past ten years, its further spread in Ulcinj and to other hosts can be expected. Continuous plant inspections are necessary, primarily on the underside of leaves, in areas where the species has not yet been recorded, and where it has, to monitor population development (imago appearance, egg laying, larval pupation) and apply protective measures. Inspections should be conducted wherever host plants are present: in production plantations (citrus and other cultivated host plants), on nearby plants, in yards and courtyards, and other potential locations such as hotel complexes, city parks, markets, etc. To facilitate mass trapping (in areas where the species is present) and reduce the likelihood of adult insects flying onto host plants, as well as to detect possible presence (especially in areas where the species has not yet been found), yellow sticky boards should be hung in as many places as possible—both in production areas (monitoring population development and vegetative growth, especially in citrus with three growth phases during vegetation) and elsewhere. When applying treatments, care should be taken to target younger leaves and actively growing ones, as adults prefer these for egg-laying. The conclusion is that it should become standard practice for producers to inspect the underside of leaves, set up, regularly replace, and check yellow sticky boards, perform chemical protection, and communicate with representatives of the Advisory Service in plant production and the Phytosanitary Inspection.
