Ivanović with Journalists from EU Member States: Closing Three More Negotiating Chapters Confirms Montenegro’s Progress on Its Path to the EU
Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Dr Filip Ivanović spoke with journalists from European Union member states who are visiting Montenegro to learn about the country’s progress in the EU accession process. During the discussion, Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović stressed that the latest results confirm the continuity of reform activities and Montenegro’s determination to achieve its strategic goal—full membership in the European Union. “With a total of 21 provisionally closed chapters, we are entering a new stage of the final phase of the negotiating process, aware that each subsequent step requires the full commitment of institutions, consistent implementation of reforms and continued cooperation with our European partners,” Ivanović said. He emphasized that European integration is not merely a process of aligning legislation and meeting negotiating benchmarks, but also a long-term transformation of society that brings stronger institutions, greater legal certainty, better public policies and new development opportunities for citizens and the economy. Speaking about the importance of support from EU member states, Ivanović noted that the enlargement policy is important for the stability, security and prosperity of the entire European continent, and that Montenegro’s progress is an opportunity to reaffirm the credibility of a process based on individual merit and achieved results. Ivanović assessed that direct discussions with journalists from member states provide an opportunity to exchange information, dispel doubts and gain a better understanding of the results, as well as the challenges accompanying the final stage of accession negotiations.
