New collaboration between VU and Stichting NLnet a fact

A new research group in the field of Internet technology will start on January 1, 2000, at the Division of Mathematics and Computer Science of the Faculty of Exact Sciences. The new research group Interactive Intelligent Distributed Systems (IIDS) will mainly focus on the challenges posed by the frequent use of global networks (Internet). The establishment of this new group (led by a newly appointed professor) is made possible through full funding by Stichting NLnet for at least 10 years. Stichting NLnet's primary goal is to give a strong boost to research in electronic networks, where openness of results in the form of 'Open Source' and free applications is an essential secondary condition. With the creation of this group (part-time professor, two researchers, a programmer, and two PhD students), Stichting NLnet hopes to make an important contribution to global developments in this area.
