Border police officers confiscated 185.5 kg of tobacco near Lake Skadar

Border police officers from the Sector of Border Police – Border Police Station I Podgorica, engaged in activities to detect and prevent smuggling across the state border, seized 185.5 kilograms of cut tobacco worth around 13,000 euros last night near Lake Skadar, in the village of Šarova Topola. The tobacco was discarded by the person transporting it upon noticing police officers. Around 19:00, while patrolling the border area near Albania using a drone, officers observed two vehicles, a Citroen C3 and a VW Golf II, both without license plates, moving in their direction. They signaled the vehicles to stop with lights and sirens, but the drivers ignored the signals, increased speed, and fled. No person was found in or near the vehicles, but nearby, police found 13 large black PVC bags, some torn, containing 371 smaller white paper packages, each weighing about 0.5 kg, totaling 185.5 kg of cut tobacco valued at approximately 13,000 euros. Authorities are actively searching for the person driving the VW Golf II and the individual responsible for the smuggling. The incident has been reported to the State Prosecutor in Podgorica, who will coordinate further measures to clarify the case.
