Hungary: New Hungarian Government Supports Montenegro as Next EU Member

Montenegro is an example that other candidate countries should follow and has Hungary's support to become the next European Union member by 2028. The Prime Minister assessed that Montenegro exemplifies how the accession process should look, emphasizing that membership can only be achieved through decisive reforms, consistent fulfillment of obligations, and concrete results in all areas covered by the negotiation process. Prime Minister Spajić thanked Hungary for its support of Montenegro's European integration, highlighting that EU membership is the government's most important strategic goal. Montenegro aims to be an example of a successful accession process and to confirm that enlargement policy benefits both candidate countries and the European Union itself. It was also emphasized that close coordination among allies is an important response to current security challenges and a foundation for even more intensive cooperation in the future. The Hungarian Prime Minister extended an invitation to the Montenegrin Prime Minister to visit Hungary and attend the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the 1956 revolution at the end of October. Spajić noted that Montenegro remains committed to further improving relations with Hungary and expressed hope that continued high-level contacts and direct cooperation among relevant institutions will create conditions for the full implementation of agreements and the realization of joint development projects.
